Migrate from Sendy
Move your Sendy subscriber lists, suppression data, and sending domain to Mally. No data loss, no gaps in suppressions.
What the migration covers
Mally can import the following data from a Sendy installation:
- Subscriber lists: Each Sendy list becomes a Mally list. Active, unsubscribed, and bounced statuses are preserved.
- Subscriber records: Email addresses, names, and standard Sendy custom fields are imported. Custom field values migrate as text fields.
- Suppression list: Global unsubscribes and hard bounces from Sendy are added to Mally's suppression list, preventing any accidental re-sends.
- Campaign history (basic): Sent campaign names and dates can be imported for reference. Open and click statistics do not transfer — they remain in Sendy.
What does not migrate
Campaign analytics (open rates, click rates, per-subscriber events) do not transfer — they stay in Sendy's MySQL database. Autoresponders (Sendy's basic triggered emails) migrate as automation stubs that you will need to rebuild with full content in Mally's flow builder. Email templates from Sendy need to be re-created or copy-pasted into Mally.
Exporting from Sendy
Sendy does not have a bulk export — you export each list separately. Log in to your Sendy admin panel and export your lists:
- 1Go to your Sendy admin → select a brand → Subscribers
- 2Click on a list to open it
- 3Click the export icon (download arrow) and choose "Export to CSV"
- 4Download the CSV — it contains email, name, subscription status, and any custom fields
- 5Repeat for each list you want to migrate
For the suppression list, Sendy stores global unsubscribes in a dedicated table. Export this too — go to Subscribers → Global unsubscribe list and export as CSV.
Import the suppression list first
This step is critical. Import all previously unsubscribed and bounced addresses into Mally's suppression list before importing any active subscribers. This ensures no one is emailed against their wishes during or after migration.
In Mally, go to Subscribers → Suppression List → Import suppression. Upload the CSV of unsubscribes from Sendy. Map the email column and confirm. Mally will add all these addresses to the global suppression list — they will be excluded from any future sends, on any list.
Also import hard bounces from Sendy: export the bounced subscribers from each Sendy list (filter by "bounced" status) and import them to the Mally suppression list separately.
Sendy field mapping
Sendy CSV exports use column names that are slightly different from Mally's field names. When you import in Mally, map the columns as follows:
| Sendy CSV column | Mally field |
|---|---|
Email Address | |
Name | first_name (or split manually) |
Custom Field 1 | Create matching custom field |
Subscription Status | Handled automatically by import type |
If Sendy stored first and last name as a single "Name" field, you can split it in a spreadsheet before importing (Excel and Google Sheets both have a "Split text to columns" feature).
Re-verifying your sending domain
Your existing SES sending domain from Sendy carries over — the domain is already verified in AWS SES. However, Mally needs to verify the domain on its end too. Go to Settings → Sending Domains → Add domain and enter your domain.
Mally will ask you to add DKIM CNAME records. If you already have SES DKIM CNAMEs in your DNS from Sendy, they may be the same or different depending on your SES region. Add the records Mally shows and wait for verification.
You do not need to re-request SES production access — your existing account status carries over.
A note about campaign history and stats
Campaign statistics (opens, clicks, bounce rates, unsubscribe rates) from Sendy do not transfer to Mally. They are stored in Sendy's MySQL database and are not included in the CSV export.
Before decommissioning your Sendy instance, export your analytics from Sendy's reports section or query the database directly if you want to preserve them for reference.
Going forward, all campaign statistics will be recorded in Mally from the moment you start sending. Your historical open rates and click rates will be available in Sendy for as long as you keep that instance running.
